Brief History



The College of Nursing (CON) is one of the academic departments of the Center for Medical and Allied Health Sciences (CMAHS). On June 12, 2003, the College of Nursing formally started its curricular offerings with Prof. Lavinia D. Panganiban as the dean. Since 2004, the College has been under the leadership of Prof. Baby Simonnette B. Leoncio.


In its 20 years, the College has set an outstanding record in the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE). For two consecutive years—November 2009 and December 2010, it ranked 4th place among the Top Performing Schools, and ranked 3rd place in 2011. Beginning 2012, the College produced several Board Top Notchers. Mr. Billy T. Rabago who ranked 2nd place in December 2012, Ms. Kristine Joie A. Danan who ranked 1st place in December 2013, Mr. Aldrin S. Bagang, who ranked 3rd place in November 2016, Ms. Kyra Lianne H. Gamboa who ranked 9th place in November 2018 NLE and Ms. Karen Vera Yong who ranked 10th place in November 2022..


The College successfully maintained the 100% passing rate for seven consecutive years, November 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023, and from PRC NEU CON is number 1 TOP Performing School. With the guidance of the Church and University Administration, it has successfully set a legacy of A Decade of Excellence by obtaining 98% Average Passing Rate in the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination for the past ten years.


Indeed, New Era University College of Nursing has stayed committed in providing quality education and will continue to do so for the new batch of nursing students for AY 2024-2025.

Admission Policy for Incoming Freshmen




In order to be admitted in the BS Nursing Program, an applicant MUST:
  ● Be a graduate of Senior High School (STEM and GAS Track)
  ● Have a weighted average not below 85% in the report card (F-138)
  ● Pass ALL of the following: Entrance Examination
    Nursing Aptitude Test
    Interview with the Dean
  ● Be physically fit and free from communicable/contagious disease (pass medical examination)
  ● Be free from any physical defects that may hamper ability to provide care for a patient



If a shifter/transferee, he/she MUST:
  ● Have no failing grade and grade of 3.0 in any subject nor have a record of “DROPPED/UNAUTHORIZED WITHDRAWAL/INCOMPLETE” in any subject (including NSTP and PE);
  ● Be an incoming 2nd year student AND pass the interview by the Dean (for transferees taking up BS Nursing)
  ● Pass the Nursing Aptitude Test AND the interview by the Dean (for shifters)
  ● Be physically fit and free form any communicable/contagious disease be free from any physical defects that may affect capability to take care of patients

The BS Nursing Program aims to develop a professional nurse who is able to assume entry level positions in health facilities or community settings who embody the core values of Godliness, excellence, integrity, compassion and empathy.

Course Title: Anatomy and Physiology

Course Description: This course deals with the physiologic concepts, principles and basic anatomical structure

Course Title: Biochemistry
Course Code: CONBC 2-18
Course Description: The course deals with the study of chemical composition of living cells. This embraces the study of the chemistry of carbohydrates, lipids and protein, nucleic acids and enzymes and their metabolism when taken as food by man.

Course Title: Microbiology and Parasitology
Course Code: CONMP-18
Course Description: This course is designed to assist students in the study of important microorganisms and parasites. It explains the physiology and pathogenic properties of bacteria, fungi and viruses as an introduction to disease causation, their biology, the infections they cause, host response to these infections and their mode of transmission, prevention, treatment and nursing responsibilities. The laboratory experiences provide specimen collection, handling and processing of specimens for isolation and identification of microorganisms and parasites involved in the infectious processes.

Course Title: Theoretical Foundation of Nursing
Course Code: NCM 100-18
Course Description: This course deals with the meta concepts of a person, health, environment and nursing as viewed by the different theorist. Likewise, it includes non-nursing theories such as systems, developmental and change theories. It presents how these concepts and theories serve as guide to nursing practice. It further deals with health as a multifactorial phenomenon and the necessary core competencies that the nurse need to develop. The students are expected to demonstrate the knowledge and principles gained from the course and apply iit in formulating appropriate patient care plan.

Course Title: Health Assessment
Course Code: NCM 101-18
Course Description: The course deals with concepts, principles & techniques of history taking using various tools, physical examination (head to toe), psycho-social assessment and interpretation of laboratory findings to arrive at a nursing diagnosis on the client across the lifespan in the community with considerations of the needs of indigenous people and in the hospital setting.

Course Title: Health Education
Course Code: NCM 103-18
Course Description: The course includes discussions on health education concepts, principles, theories and strategies as they apply in the clinical and classroom situations. It provides experiences to develop skills in designing and applying a teaching plan using the nursing process frame work. Problem based learning are also utilized.

Course Title: Fundamentals of Nursing Practice

Course Description: Theories, principles, processes basic to nursing profession as science and art; with emphasis on the concept of man as a holistic being and with consideration of the Philippine Indigenous people as a special population; the professional roles of the nurse in health state as well as its role in the implementation of laws affecting health status such as Universal Health Care act; utilizing the nursing process and basic nursing skills as primary tool in health promotion, maintenance, prevention of illness and identification of risk factors.

Course Title: Pharmacology
Course Code: NCM 104-18
Course Description: This course deals with the concepts principles, and mechanisms of safe drug administration in promoting, managing, and restoring health of clients across the life span. Emphasis is given in the vital role of nurses in adhering to ethico-legal standards in the use of medications and the application of the Universal Health Care Act with regards to access to medications. Various concepts such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug interactions including patient responses are included to ensure that scientifically sound, effective, appropriate and collaborative nursing care is delivered to all levels of clientele.

Course Title: Nutrition and Diet Therapy
Course Code: NCM 105-18
Course Description: This course deals with the study of food in relation to health. It covers nutrients and other substances and their action, and interaction and balance in relation to health and diseases and the process by which organism ingests, digest, absorbs, transports, utilizes and excretes food substances. It will also focus in the therapeutic and food service aspects of the delivery of nutritional services in hospitals and other healthcare institutions.

Course Title: Community Health Nursing I
Course Code: NCM 106-18
Course Description: This course covers the concepts and principles in the provision of basic care in terms of health promotion, health maintenance, and disease prevention at the individual and family level in the context of primary health care. It includes the study of the health care delivery system, national health situation, various national health laws (i.e. UHC and NICCA) and the global context of public health nursing practice is aslo included in the course.

Course Title: Care of Mother, Child , Adolescent (Well Client)

Course Description: The course deals with the application of concepts, principles, and techniques of safe nursing care to well mothers, child and adolescents, and utilizing the evidence based practice and nursing process, The students are expected to demonstrate safe, effective and appropriate nursing care to a healthy mother and child in varied settings with application of provisions of the Universal Health Care Act and primary health care concepts.

Course Title: Health Care Ethics ( Bioethics)
Course Code: NCM 108-18
Course Description: This course deals with the application of ethico-moral and legal concepts and principles to issues that affect the practice of nursing. These provide the basis for appropriate decision making given varied situations, to prepare the learner to render effective, efficient and safe nursing care. Furthermore, related learning experiences provide opportunities to concretize commitment to nursing. The critical thinking process shall be used in the unit with the objective of developing the intellectual capacity to conceptualize and contextualize what students know about particular ethico-moral and legal issues including health care laws (Universal Health Care law, National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA)) that affect their practice.

Course Title: Nursing Informatics
Course Code: NCM 110-18
Course Description: This course deals with the use of information technology system and data standards based on nursing informatics principles/theories. It further deals with the utilization of clinical information system in the management and decision-making of patient care primarily in the Philippines and the world. Relevant E- laboratory sessions will be provide application of topics discussed in the classroom. It will equip the students with the skills necessary to search the internet accurately to gather and assess evidence based practice policies, procedures and information, for the health care team and their clients. It will introduce them to the nursing profession with a sufficient knowledge on basic computer hardware, software and related terminologies, the concepts of the Internet, digital media, social mediums, web 2.0 and other helpful informatics websites.

Course Description: This course deals with the application of major phases of the research process in the development of a technically and ethically sound research proposal. Various concepts and principles will be introduced on how research can contribute to the advancement of nursing science in relation to the role of a beginning nurse researcher which includes: (1) engagement in nursing or health related research, (2) evaluation of research study/report and (3) application of the research process in improving patient care.

Course Description: This course deals with the principles and techniques of nursing care management of sick clients across lifespan with emphasis on the adult and the older person, families and population groups in any setting with alterations/problems in cellular aberration, fluid and electrolytes, acid-base balance infection, inflammatory and immunologic responses and oxygenation. Course Title: Care of Clients with Maladaptive Patterns of Behavior, Acute and Chronic

Course Description: This course deals with the principles, theories and techniques in the nursing care management of clients towards promotion of mental health and prevention of mental health and prevention of mental illness and for the care management of clients in psychiatric emergencies and/or with psychobiologic disorders giving emphasis on the management of alterations in thought content and processes, psycho-emotional disturbances and maladaptive patterns of behavior of individuals, communities, population groups, and vulnerable groups across the lifespan, in any health care setting with application of provisions of the Universal Health Care Act and primary health care concepts.. The earners who successfully complete this course are expected to provide safe, appropriate, evidence-based, holistic and individualized care to meet the full range of needs of the client person/s experiencing psychiatric emergencies and/or those with mental health alteration/s through the principles and cultural/ethnic sensitivities.

The students are expected to perform beginning professional management and leadership skills, and apply sound ethico-moral and legal decision-making in the hospital and community-based settings. Students are likewise expected to comply to the professional standards of nursing practice as well as manifest beginning nursing entrepreneurial skills as applied to the various fields in nursing and adhere to relevant labor laws.

Course Title: Philippine Indigenous Communities
Course Code: GEEPIC-24
Course Description: The course introduces students to the importance of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines. It examines the historical perspective of Indigenous populations and state accommodations of Indigenous Peoples’ rights.
This course will introduce students to the Philippine Indigenous Communities. It will aid in their comprehension of the richness and heterogeneity of Philippine society. In particular, the students will have a clear and holistic understanding of the concept of being indigenous, with the primary purpose of addressing issues confronting the country’s Indigenous People Communities such as but not limited to social justice, cultural and environmental preservation, development and globalization. It will also provide the students with basic knowledge on the existing national and international policies involving Indigenous societies.
