NEU karatekas bag 13 awards in national tourney

The Karatekas of New Era University brought home 13 awards in the recently concluded 5th National Full-Contact Karate Tournament held at the Bangkal Community Complex on January 26, 2019.

The NEU Team, led by Sensei Richard Picar, was able to win three silver medals, with Rolando Viola Jr. (Grade 3, 7-8 Boys Category), Redken Roldan (Grade 9, 13-14 Boys Category), and Prince JM Malvecino (15-16 Boys Category), who also got the Best in Technique Award. NEU also had two bronze medal awardees in Adrian Karl Cañete (Grade 10, 15-16 Boys Category) and Leonnel Dimatulac (1st year college, 17-18 Boys Category).

To complete the impressive haul, six karatekas were declared as champions, namely: Princess Malvecino (Grade 7, 11-12 Girls Category,) Calvin Charles Viola (Grade 8, 13-14 Boys Category), Nel Emmanuel Santiago (Grade 10, 15-16 Boys Category), John Earl Bernardino (Grade 10, 17-18 Boys Category), Heinz Millicynth Paat (Grade 11, 15-16 Girls Category), and Clarisse Camasis (4th year college, Women's Advance Category), who also received the Boshido Award.

Meanwhile, the NEU Team also participated in the Kata Competition represented by Ayeken Seredrica, Redken Roldan, and Princess Malvecino.
